One of the most common beliefs about middle-born children is that they have distant relationships with their parents. Most of this research covers all possible birth orders, including the impact of being a middle child. Researchers have tested the effects of birth order on plenty of conditions, including OCD, schizophrenia, depression, autism, and even anorexia. The middle child falls somewhere in-between and is unable to be the favorite of either parent.ĭespite these beliefs in middle child syndrome, the science surrounding birth order is still being explored. Favoritism may exist for the oldest child who is viewed as special, or for the youngest child who is viewed as the baby. Middle children generally don’t feel that they are the favorite child of the family. As they find themselves in the middle of everything, they may also become the peacemaker. They might compete for attention between siblings, as they risk being ignored by one or the other. The middle child often feels the need to compete with both the younger and older sibling for parental attention. The middle child isn’t given as much attention as either. The older sibling is strong-willed, and the younger sibling is the baby, which leaves the middle child somewhere in-between. All I have to say is “Princesses don’t act that way.” Then she will quickly change her behavior. So much so, if she’s acting bad or not listening. She has for a few years now constantly insisted that she’s a Princess. She is constantly wanting to help me clean and most recently doing the dishes. Don’t get me wrong she likes gifts, but she much rather help someone out. Her favorite song that she will sing (regardless if it’s Christmas or not) is…”Christmas is not about gifts it’s about being together and helping each other.” That fits her personality to a T. This girl can make a song out of just about anything. I foresee many lessons coming from Aspen. If you come around her, be prepared to talk!! (She starts school on the 26th and something tells me we might hear from her teacher about that issue!) She is also my “cheer baby”. She is constantly aiming to make people happy and don’t like to disappoint anyone. I always told her that her Grandpa gave her a special kiss since they shared a special day together. She was born with what’s called Angel Kisses. She also shares a birthday with my Grandpa. Her middle name is after her Nana, Lea Anne. So in honor of it I decided to share a little bit with you about my middle child. It’s a day to celebrate a child who sometimes may get put on a back burner. I honestly didn’t know there was such a thing, but there is.
